My Return To Sewing

That's right, it has been quite awhile since I have heard the hum of my sewing machine but it sounds wonderful! Now that the new house is situated (for the most part) I knew I had to get my office/sewing room set back up again. What better of an inspiration could I have but the birth of a gorgeous baby girl. Her parents are one of our dearest friends and I have been wanting to sew for this princess since I found out my girlfriend
was pregnant.

Well I am finally getting back in the grove and have realized how much I missed it. Plus now that my girls see the room all set up they are already picking through fabrics and requesting dresses and twirly skirts...lol I have also decided to close down my dot com website for Sew Fierce. I will still have my Etsy open and will be adding to it over the next several months. There is just is no reason to have two websites open for the same thing and since I have more sales off of Etsy the past year, I will stick with them. I am hoping to figure out how to point my domain to my Etsy store so I can continue to use my dot com address. Wish me luck on that one, I am not very technical like that...lol

White Wedding

Seven years ago today my hubby and I celebrated with our friends and family the joining of our lives. This was our white wedding. We were actually married in a very small intimate ceremony several months before. Just him and I and one friend on top of Mt Solidad in San Diego. So I celebrate two anniversary dates every year...yay me! It was a perfect wedding and I was so happy to share it with all the people I love.

Vintage Pinkers - Antiquing Fun!

Since moving to PA I have been having so much fun visiting the local antique shops. We have bought so much furniture and vintage kitchen ware but I can not help but look for smaller, interesting little pieces too. On Father's Day we went to an outdoor museum. They had people dressed in different time period military dress and even cowboy performers that reenacted the OK Corral shootout. Also there was a military antique dealer named Paul Buckley from Round Pond Redoubt. Such a sweetheart, oh my goodness...love him! He had his tables set up and wares displayed and we went to town picking through his stuff.

While hubby and I chatted him up I came across these pinking shears. They were like nothing I had seen before and a name I do not recognize. I paid Paul only a few bucks for them and couldn't wait to get online to do some research.

Interesting thing is I can not find anything on Google about them, or even a picture. Looks like the B.M.C MFG Corp is no longer in NY and the only thing "antique" listed I found is pliers.

They are called "Change A Blade" Pinkers. Interesting concept and very cool looking.

I then looked up the pat # and found that the patient was issued Aug 14,1945, but again no picture and no additional info. Could they be so rare that I can't find one piece of info about them even with all this technology? Very interesting. Regardless, I love them and they actually still work beautifully!

If anyone has ever seen these or knows some history about them please hit me up :)

Cherry Filled Devil Food Cupcakes with Whipped Chocolate Frosting

After I was done with my house work I decided to make my neighbors some cupcakes. They have been so sweet, welcoming and helpful since we moved in I wanted to show my appreciation. While we are still in the move in process I am missing most of my "from scratch" baking ingredients but thanks to Duncan Hines cake mix, a can of cherry pie filling and Betty Crocker Whipped Frosting I made these tasty cupcakes. I really love having a few boxes of mix and frosting on hand and this is one of those reasons why.

Such a simple and easy cupcake to make and super tasty. I used the devils food cake mix and once cooled, I cored out the center of each cupcake and filled with the cherry pie filling. I love black forest cake so this is a perfect mini version of that type of cake. Chocolate and cherries...how can you go wrong?

I topped my cupcakes with the whipped chocolate frosting. I have never used the Betty Crocker Whipped Frosting before but am pleasantly surprised by the silky, airy texture and how it pipped so perfectly onto the cupcakes. Definitely my new favorite pre made frosting.

IHF Photo Challenge - Let's Hear It For The Boys

This weeks theme has to do with "the boys". Unfortunately I have girls and rarely shoot random men...lol So this shot was from hubbies E8 rank ceremony a few months back. I figured what better display of boys/men could there be but men in uniform standing at attention.

Photo Challenge - Bright and Vivid

Since our cross country move and everything else going on I have not been able to participate in the fun weekly blogging events like I Heart Faces. So I am getting myself back on track starting today with this weeks photo challenge - bright and vivid.

Yesterday I took my girls to their first Horse Show, the proceeds went to help our local Fire Dept. When I was younger I rode hunter/jumper. My horse's name was Digbee. I loved him so much and I loved everything about horses, I could not get enough of the gentle giants.

When I was older I bought a yearling Quarter/Paint and named her Autumn Skyy. She was the first horse I raised, trained and broke myself and she was fantastic! When she was 4 I had to sell her due to my multiple knee surgeries and couldn't ride or visit her like I used to. She went to a wonderful home, but I vowed someday I would have horses again.

I am hoping that one of my girls will find the love and joy of being around horses. I am hoping they will see the simple elegance, hear the sound of hooves hitting the ground, feel the softness of their muzzle and fall in love. Then I will pass down my saddle, tack and boots and watch joy on their face as they feel like their flying on the back on a Pegasus.

Country Living - I Can Garden, Who Knew?

When I first found out the house we would be moving into in PA had 3 acres the first thing I said was "we need a garden". I then wondered if I would be able to be a gardener. I mean really, I haven't had much success in the past keeping plants alive...a green thumb I have not.

I was determined though. I will have a garden, it will be awesome and I will not kill it off I hope. So after the move and after most boxes were unpacked we headed to Home Depot. The girls had a blast picking out packets of veggie and fruit seeds. I, still not really sure what to do with the seeds, looked around for some help. I found this cool little greenhouse seed sprouter thingy. I read the directions...okay, add water to the soil pellets, add seeds, fill bottom with water and cover. Seems easy enough, we can so do this!

And we did! Only a week earlier the girls and I had planted the seeds in each individual well and look what happened. We created life! Well actually it's not my first time doing that, I have done it twice before...*wink wink*....lol

This was plant life though and it was so cool. The girls were so surprised to see how those little tiny seeds transformed into this. Stage 1 complete. We planted sweet orange carrots, purple and yellow carrots, broccoli, watermelon, and English cucumbers.

During this time we had also planted a Topsy Turvy. Funny thing, the morning we went to Home Depot my daughter C had seen the commercial for the Topsy Turvy. She comes running over and says "mom, we can grow 6 different kinds of tomatoes!". She was so excited and so amazed by this product and being the big tomato eater she is I knew she would love to have it. So we bought a Topsy Turvy, 6 different tomatoes plants and even some herb plants. Did you know you could also plant herbs with your tomatoes in your Topsy Turvy? I didn't but C did....lol

Cilantro growing strong..

After 2 weeks C's has her first tomato buds...

Sweet Mint for my iced tea...

Basil growing out of control...

It smells awesome!

So the Topsy Turvy is going strong, the seeds have popped, now what do I do? I went out with hubby and scouted a piece of the property for a garden. Lucky for me my neighbors Lee and Linda told us that the previous owner had a garden there before, so at least I knew the soil was good.

Next thing I knew my neighbor Lee was bringing over his rototiller and started tearing up the ground. Such a sweet man! He knew we didn't own which means me errrrr, hubby would be turning the ground by hand, so he came and helped us out. I love country folk! After that it was all up to me. I framed our first garden plot and transplanted all the veggies....that's right, all by my self! I have to say I feel pretty good every time I go out to water.

Garden and compost bin...that's right I am composting too. It must be something about the fresh air that makes me feel all farmy (is that a word?)

Our transplanted veggies and fruit

Not too shabby for a first timer I think. Recently we just added 4 strawberry and 2 crook neck squash plants. I still have a little room left so who knows what I will find next. Can't wait to see the finished products!

Oh and how is C's tomatoes doing? She now has a few growing. She was so excited to actually see them, what a great learning experience for the girls. Living out here, planting our garden, buying milk from the local dairy, fresh eggs from the farm...they are really learning where these things we eat come from and learning about sustainable ingredients. Fabulous!

Look What I Won From The Silly Pearl!!

How cute is this pillow!!!

I was the lucky winner of this clock pillow from Steph at The Silly Pearl. The giveaway was held during the Sew Mama Sew May Day Giveaway. Speaking of, I had such a blast going through the list of awesome blogs. I found so many new (to me) blogs to follow, chatted with some awesome ladies, picked up some pretty awesome followers of my own *waving hello* and yep, even won a little somethin' somethin'.

I was so excited when she contacted me because this win came at the perfect time. Along with spelling, reading and math, my goal for this summer brake is to also teach the girls (especially C) how to tell time. This giveaway was all mine, no one stood a chance...lol

C plays with it before running errands.

M plays with it before bed time.

Not only is the pillow functional and fun but the fabrics she choose for it are so cute! I mean really how could you not love this....

The girls just love it and of course fight over it. I am hoping maybe Steph will open an Etsy shop *hint hint* for these pillows so I can buy one for M. The construction is wonderful and the numbers are very secure. Now if you sew you will love this. You can make the pillow yourself! Steph has a tutorial posted on her blog (click here) and her adorable twin daughters give her a helping hand.

If nothing else you have to stop by The Silly Pearl and browse all the crafty projects she posts. I now have a long list of things from her blog I want to make. Finally a month after the cross country move, unpacking, and feeling overwhelmed I am inspired to be crafty again and I think I will work on setting up my sewing room today..hooray!

Birthday In Pennsylvania

Helllllooooo lovelys! It is so good to be "back", I have missed you all. Today is the first day since moving to PA a month ago that it is normal in my house. By normal I mean just the girls and I. Hubby checked in a few days ago to his new Unit and my mother whom has been visiting for the past few weeks, flew home yesterday. While I miss my mom already it is nice to be able to concentrate on my house and get the girls back on track and back into our routine.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. We actually celebrated C's 6th Birthday this past weekend. I can not believe she is 6 already. Even crazier, M will be turning 4 next month! Where does the time go mama's?

Before we celebrated C's birthday she helped place the flags on our pathway.

Happy Birthday C!

We have seen so many amazing things since moving here. Just driving around you constantly see amazing scenery. We live in such a wonderful area of North Eastern PA, I am inspired every time I walk out my front door.

Here is some of my favorite places/things from the past week or so.

Old broken down truck by our favorite local breakfast stop.

Church in Tunkhannock

Lackawanna State Park
This is a gorgeous lake/park basically in our back yard, it's amazing.

Manning Dairy Farm
This is where we buy our milk and the best ice cream I have ever tasted!

My son cracks me up every day. At his last birthday party he announced that no one could go in the garage because it was "full of mommy's junk." I tried to explain it was things for our yard sale, but I'm not sure anyone believed me!
