Little Foal, Little Foal Bento

" It's time for bed, little foal, little foal,
I'll whisper a secret, but don't tell a soul."

(Quote from Time For Bed by Mem Fox)

This is one for my favorite pages because I would get really close to C and "whisper" the second line into her ear. She always laughs and sometimes would whisper it back..lol

* Foal quesadilla's on rice with cheese/cucumber flowers
* Cherries, grape tomatoes and flower carrots.

Muffin Tin Monday - Our Military

So this week for MTM is "no theme", but some of the girls on MTM's Facebook page thought since today is Memorial Day that would be a great theme. Could not agree more. Thank you to our service men and woman former and present. Those who have passed, living in the States and stationed overseas. We appreciate the sacrifices you and your families make on a daily basis so we can have the freedom to live, love and follow our dreams.

Although no sculptured marble should rise to their memory, nor engraved stone bear record of their deeds, yet will their remembrance be as lasting as the land they honored.  — Daniel Webster

To my hero on Memorial Day...

He was just a babe back then.

Little Calf, Little Calf Bento

"It's time for bed little calf, little calf,
What happened today that made you laugh?"

(Quote from the book Time For Bed by Mem Fox)

Top Box: Melon flowers, sesame mochi and carrot blossoms
Front Box : Turkey & cheese roll ups and Wheat Thins with Laughing Cow Cheese

I thought the addition of the Laughing Cow cheese and the "L O L" was whimsical. The "4" represents the page we are on and my little calf is detailed with nori.

Just found today this awesome set of cookie cutters at Target!! 101 cutters...numbers 0-9, full alphabet as well as holiday themed and just because shapes. They rock and for only $10...score baby!

Sorry the picture and color is so off. My camera along with everything else is having issues today :)

Linking this bento box to What's For Lunch Week1. Stop by and join us!

Little Cat, Little Cat Bento

"It's time for bed, little cat, little cat,
So snuggle in tight, that's right, like that."

(Quote from Time For Bed by Mem Fox)

Our kitten is snuggled tight into a bed of red romaine lettuce with her yummy turkey pastrami quilt with patchwork cheese flowers. Under the blanket are carrot sticks and grapes. I used sprinkles for the details of the face.

Had to show the new box I got for M today, now she has her own and it is perfect size!

Little Goose, Little Goose Bento

"It's time for bed, little goose, little goose,
The stars are out and on the loose."

(Quote from Time for bed by Mem Fox)

I forgot C is getting hot lunch delivered to her today and tomorrow at school. P.S... Ki's School Lunches in San Diego North County is amazing. They deliver the tastiest fresh, organic cold & hot lunchs to kids in C's school, she loves it. So because she is getting hot lunches, M is borrowing her bento box. In keeping with our theme we started yesterday, the book is  Time For Bed by Mem Fox, today's page is little "goose, little goose".

Rear box: grapes, bird container with Cool Whip and apple stars
Forward box: Star PB&J's, scrambled eggs with sauteed red onions and spices topped with a baby goose  made of cheese. Not sure exactly what a goose chick looks like, but I imagine it could look like this right?

Shout out to Bento For Kidlet and her tutorial on how to make cheese creatures. She does awesome/amazing graphics with the cheese slices and I think gives the extra little technique I need to make better boxes. So thanks Jenn!

Jewels Of Denial Review & Giveaway

Big and gaudy or petite and shiny jewelry in general is a girls best friend. I know Marylin said it was "diamonds" but this mama can't afford it. And to be quite honest I have owned beautiful, exquisite CZ jewelry and not even the best self proclaimed "diamond experts" (aka my friends) could tell the difference...lol

What lady doesn't want to wear something beautiful around their neck or dangling from their ear and not feel gorgeous. I think it's even better when you have a secret. What's the secret? Well the amazing price you paid of course.

I just received this gorgeous Double Strand Pearl Stretch ring from discount sterling silver jewelry merchant Jewels Of Denial. At first glance of Jewels Of Denial's website I was blown away by the beautiful selection. From rings, bracelets and necklaces to toe rings, anklets and much more... all the pieces are beautiful. What I found even more intriguing is the price. Prices run between $6.99 to $39.99. There is something for everyone no matter what your budget.

The above mentioned ring I received, gorgeous isn't it? It is only $10.99 This ring is made with real Freshwater Pearls and the colors are stunning. I really love that it is a stretchy flexible band so I can wear it on any finger and at any times...even the worst water retention days. It is very comfortable, does not pinch and is not too snug.

Besides the wonderful quality of the product I was impressed with the very speedy shipping and event he detail they put into packaging. My ring arrived in this little beautiful purple velvet bag. It's those small little touches that I like. Makes me think to them I am not just an order number, but a new forever client.

Little Mouse, Little Mouse Bento

C has this favorite book we have read to her at bedtime since she was born called Time For Bed by Mem Fox. It is a little worn and falling apart but will soon be replaced with a new version  as we could not live with out it. The very last page is a picture of a little blond curly haired girl fast asleep. When C was much younger she would always point to it and say "me mommy me". So adorable still to this day.

So I am going to "try" to make the lunch based on each page in order. One page a day.  Lord help me but I think I can do it so here we go..

"It's time for bed, little mouse, little mouse
Darkness has fallen all over the house."

Now after my not so successful attempt a few days ago of cutting details out of Nori I thought I would try fruit roll ups. *shrugs shoulders* Not sure it is any better but there's my little mouse. With chedder daisy's and cantalope stars.

See the pink Onigiri? This is my by accident find. I have not Googled whether this has been done before so maybe it has..but if not I am sooooo claiming it...that's right you heard it hear first...patent pending...LOL

While eating the sausage Onigiri yesterday I happened to mix some of the rice and the strawberry stars together...WOW. It was awesome. So then I took the rice and mixed it with cantaloupe..knocked my socks off. AH HA I said to myself so I smashed up strawberries and folded it into the leftover sticky rice. I then made the balls and placed cantaloupe in the middle...Fruity Onigiri!

Here is my lunch for today (why can't mama have some fun too). A cucumber sandwich with the fruity Onigiri, cantaloupe flowers and Cool Whip for dipping. P.S. the Onigiri dipped in the Cool Whip...THE BOMB!

Not A Sushi Master But My Onigiri Rocks

Yesterday I got a craving for Sushi....yumm Suuuuushi. I couldn't go out because M has come down with C's sickness so I decided to make it myself. When I was pregger's with M I craved it so I used to make Kappa-maki for myself. I then thought that I wanted to try to make heart shaped Sushi to go with C's heart Bento theme yesterday.

I went through my veggie drawer and decided I wanted to do carrots with my cucumbers...I really wished I had avocado to throw in there..but nope. So I made the sushi rice..and boy was it sticky..lol I then made my rolls and when I tried to cut them...crap....disaster. My knife was not sharp enough and just ripped through my Nori and stuck to everything. Plus I wanted to keep my veggies chunky, yah not a good idea, should have made the slices thinner and just added more. Oh well, it was tasty....

I had a lot of left over rice and have seen some of the bento blogs I follow doing adorable Onigiri with little faces and stuff..well I was not that ambitious yesterday, but I did want to try it. I didn't have much to stuff the rice balls with...then I remembered the sausage in my freezer. I thought that would be yummy....the salty sausage to go with the slightly sweet rice...and it was!

I am always excited to try a new culinary treat so this was awesome. Now I did something else with the left over rice...kind of stumbled upon it by accident (and so glad I did)...but I can  not share it with you until later for the C Bento post so come on back :)

Back To School Bento

C finally went back to school today..yay! Don't get me wrong I love my girl but OMG was she driving me crazy. Apparently my two girls can not be couped up in the house for that amount of time together before they start either killing each other or they turn on me..lol Siblings.

Last night I asked C what she wanted for lunch today and she said "hearts mommy". Okay no problem I told her. So I planned on getting up early because I had an idea and I knew it out take some time. However M was up all night sick, hubby took most of the shifts but I still ended up sleeping in. So I didn't have time to execute what I wanted to so maybe tomorrow..lol

Last week I hit up Marukai again, they had just restocked the Bento boxes so I was wicked excited. I decide to buy C a box and bag, I thought it would be nice to start her new school and Kindergarten in the fall with new lunch ware fun. However she wants to use it now..okay I'm easy (actually I was excited myself)

This bag fits the box perfectly and leaves just enough room for a juice box. I like how tiny it is, much smaller and compact than her current lunch box.

Come with chopsticks in the top..so cool.

All packed up

Hearts, hearts and more hearts

Pocky sticks fit perfect in the top.

C does not know how to use chopsticks, she has tried. She always gets her own pair to practice with when ever mommy is using them. Who knows, the way she picks things up she might be able to use them before we know it..lol

Under The Sea Bento

Spent the day at home since I decided to keep C home from school today because of her "viral thing" (per the doctor) over the weekend. She is doing much better but just as a precaution she is home. Let me tell you, she is making up for the past few days..the child is crazy okay..lol

Anyways I decided to do something fun for lunch today. C and I were talking about Nemo in the ER yesterday so I went with an Under The Sea themed lunch.

* Octopus on a bed of Coral
* "Nemo" cheese cutout with Nori accents
* "Reef Life" made from strawberries and cucumber cups with carrot sticks.

I tried my hand at using Nori for details. Wow is that hard! Pikko of Adventures in Bento Making makes it look..well not easy...but do able. I am happy with my first attempt at using it however. Like everything else it's just practice and patience I guess..lol

Muffin Tin Monday - Mini Series : Seeds, Flowers, Plants

Part two of the Spring Mini Series..Seeds, Flowers and Plants. I decided for our MTM we would try and go for a Flower Garden type theme. I was hoping to actually use more tins for my MTM but my brain was not functioning. I had been up since 0200 and had just spent 6 hours in the ER with C so needless to say my creative juices where kaput.

To find see more wonderful tins of non sleep deprived moms stop by the home of MTM..Muffin Tin Mom!!

Our "Flower Garden" consists of:

 * PB&J Flower with a cucumber stem growing out of cherry blossom carrots. A mini flower cheese sandwich accents the garden. I used the pretzels as "lattice".

* "Dirt" - Chocolate pudding with crushed Oreo's as the top soil and rocks. Buried in the pudding are sprinkles which act as the "seeds" we sow.

* Flower shaped apples, one with a grape center.

* Cucumber and cream cheese flower sandwich. One says MTM and the other was decorated with a heart and "mommy" by C herself.
