First Cavity...and She's Only 4!!!

Poor C, she had her first cavity filled this afternoon. My husband was dumbfounded when I told him last month of the cavity find. Ever since her first tooth popped through he has been so strict about her (and M also) brushing at least 2 times if not more a day. So he couldn't understand how this happened and at only 4 yrs of age. Basically her two top teeth are so close together it was the perfect sugar bug breeding condition.

Here she is nice and calm after 20 minutes of hysterical screaming. Dr. Stephanie wasn't sure the gas would work since she was breathing through her mouth while crying instead of her nose. While talking to her I finally got her to settle down enough to start breathing through her nose and the gas started to work. She then got the Novocain injection which she did very well with and was left to set for 10 minutes while that took effect. I have to say I laughed out loud a few times watching her make the weirdest faces. I wish I could have video taped it I know it could have won money on Americas Funniest Home Video's.

When Dr. Stephanie came back in they stared. C did not react well to the drill (do not blame her). I do not know if it's because it hurt or it was just scary. However in only a matter of  20 minutes C was done and collecting toys and stickers from the goodie drawer and asking what was for lunch.

If you live in San Diego I highly recommend San Diego Pediatric Dental Group. We go to the Sorrento Valley Office off of Mira Mesa Blvd. It is a family owned business with the sweetest staff ever. C see's Dr. Stephanie Dixon and she is just so soft spoken, calm and she gave a step by step account to C of everything she was doing, what she was using and gives everything kid friendly names. The block that holds your mouth open was a "pillow", the spacer she used between her teeth was a "hug", ect.. We love Dr. Stephanie and are so glad we found her.

So the lesson we learned is no matter how many times you brush their teeth if you do not floss, there is more of a chance this will happen. I know it's the same as with us as adults, but we never thought their teeth had to be flossed. We obviously never did it before...now we do!

aaaww...!! I can understand her screaming. I hate the dentist and am terrified of having stuff in my mouth that vibrates.

I am glad that she finally settled down and was able to get the caviaty filled. She deserved every toy and sticker she received! Thanks for the remcommendation of the dentist!

Awww poor tiny one. I was lucky enough not to have to deal with cavities until I was a teenager and then it was because my teeth were too close together as well.

Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest :)

Poor girl. I don't blame her for freaking out. I do the same thing at the dentist office. Seriously, I get panic attacks...

Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest!

Really flossing is what needed to be done, geez you mean I have to start fighting to get that stuff in ER's mouth...Glad it all went okay in the end.

Cavities do not discriminate by age, but at least you were able to take C to the dentist before it got any worse! Maybe this calls for more apples and less candies on Halloween.
